Police in James City County said a 17-year-old Jamestown High student was intending to sell more than 500 pills stolen from her “grandmother and deceased grandfather.”

School administrators informed a school resource officer on Tuesday about “a student being in possession of prescription medications that were not prescribed to her.”

An administrator apparently received a tip the day before about the student having the “unprescribed medication” and even posted a photo on her Snapchat “indicating that she was selling the medication,” according to a news release from the James City County Police Department.

Authorities searched the student’s belongings Tuesday and they found a prescription bottle believed to contain Xanax.

A further search of the student’s vehicle revealed a plastic container holding numerous pills and a small amount of marijuana. In total, more than 500 pills including sedatives, narcotics, antidepressants and opioids were seized from the student, police said.

Preliminary investigation indicated she stole the medication from her grandparents’ home.

The pills were sent to the Virginia Department of Forensic Science for analysis.

No charges have been filed against teen – the case remains under investigation.
