Zhyonna “Zhy” Jones has aspirations to be a model and since most models and influences showcase beauty products, she thought she’s give it a try.
So she opened a business.
Her venture, Heavenly Lips, opened its online store in August and relaunched at the end of October.
“Well I always had the mindset of making my own stuff and putting my own spin on it,” the 14-year-old CEO and Williamsburg native said.
Jones goes to Lafayette High School and takes business and marketing in school. She named the store after her middle name, Heavenly.
Her lip glosses are handmade and mixed with pigments which lets James experiment with other colors to create something unique, different than store-bought lip glosses.
Future lip products include a mood changing lip gloss and a lip gloss in the shade of rainbow.
So why lip gloss?
“Lip gloss is noticeable,” Jones said. “When you look at someone you notice their face first.”
Right now, the store is online but her mother, Neona James, plans on buying a storefront next year so Zhyonna and her older sister, Shy’Corrain King, 19, can run their three businesses there.
Neona owns Neechie’s Jewels and Neechie’s Boutique and is in the process of helping her other daughter open Shy Qween, a store specializing in eyelashes.
Another reason she chose lip gloss is because she is on the cheer team for the school’s basketball team and having to get dressed up for cheer competitions made her realize she really liked lip gloss.
“It’s a nice thing to do,” Jones said about lip gloss. “Everybody likes to put something on their lips.”
Heavenly Lips is based out of Williamsburg and has an online store. Those interested in becoming brand ambassadors for the business can contact Heavenly Lips via Facebook messenger, direct messaging on Instagram or texting Zhyonna James at 757-903-7010 .
