John McGlennon will continue as supervisor for the Roberts district in James City County.

On Tuesday, McGlennon (3,177 or 65.3 percent) beat new-comer Trevor Herrin (1,676 or 34.45 percent), according to unofficial results from the Virginia Department of Elections.

Write-in votes totaled 12 votes or .25 percent

“Notably among this year’s races, ours was marked by civility on both sides,” Herrin said in a Facebook post. “That civil conversation is what’s missing from our national political discourse. We need more races like this one. Thank you to everyone – on both sides – who made this happen. You are why American democracy succeeds. Keep it up.”

McGlennon has lived in James City County for more than four decades and was first elected to the Board of Supervisors in 1997. He was re-elected in 2001 and 2005 and served as chairman of the board in 2007 and vice chairman the first half of 2012.

In addition to his work on the board, McGlennon is a professor in the Department of Government at William & Mary.

Some of McGlennon’s concerns are to repair fault paving, expand bus service, create more housing for the senior population, focus on stormwater control projects in Grove and James Terrace, protect drinking water, fight against current residents to pay the costs of new residential growth, and promote community values.

McGlennon did not immediately respond for comment.
