Here are the unofficial local elections results for the Peninsula

People across the Peninsula cast their vote for various contested races including the school board and district supervisors in York and James City Counties to the York-Poquoson and Williamsburg-James City County Sheriff’s Office and the Clerk of Court positions in Hampton and Newport News.

Here are the unofficial results as the ballots as of 9:38 p.m.

York County

York County School Board

District 1

  • Mark J. Shafer: 1,823 votes, 47.52 percent
  • Marneicia D. Branch: 995 votes, 25.94 percent
  • Melanie C. S. Wynkoop: 991 votes, 25.83 percent
  • Write-In: 27 votes, 0.70 percent

District 2

  • Brett J. Higginbotham (I): 2,266 votes, 98.14 percent
  • Write-In: 43 votes, 1.86 percent

District 3

  • Laurel M. Garrelts: 4,110 votes, 98.47 percent
  • Write-in: 64 votes, 1.53 percent

District 4

  • James E. “Jimmy” Richardson (I): 2,684 votes, 59.80 percent
  • Brooks L. Taylor: 1,790 votes, 39.88 percent
  • Write-In: 14 votes, 0.31 percent

District 5

  • Sean P. Matt: 2,990 votes, 98.55 percent
  • Write-In: 44 votes, 1.45 percent

York County Sheriff

  • J.D. “Danny” Diggs (I): 15,573 votes, 75.26 percent
  • Scott Williams: 5,070 votes, 24.50 percent
  • Write-In: 49 votes, 0.24 percent

  • Walter Zaremba (I): 2,274 votes, 51.93 percent
  • Dalila L. Johnson: 2,087 votes, 47.66 percent
  • Write-In: 18 votes, 0.41 percent

  • Sheila Noll: 2,071 votes, 96.87 percent
  • Write-In: 67 votes, 3.13 percent
