It’s been in the works for about 10 months, and now, the CHKD Thrift Store is back in business and has reopened its doors to York County and Williamsburg customers.

The Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters’ store had its grand opening at the Victory Village shopping center on Mooretown Road Wednesday after closing a temporary location in January.

Before moving to the temporary spot in May 2018, the store served Williamsburg residents for 25 years on Monticello Avenue before the Midtown Row shopping center was sold last December.

At about 15,000 square feet, their new real estate covers approximately 5,000 square feet more than the previous location, a benefit Joy Litton, district manager of CHKD Thrift Stores, said contributes to the store’s mission.

We’re able to feature and put more items on the floor to sell and in turn better benefit the hospital by producing more donations,” she said.

Also to accommodate for the larger space, Litton said she’s still hiring employees to fill all positions including assistant managers, cashiers, and processors at the new location.

There are 25 CHKD Thrift Store locations in Hampton Roads and Richmond, each providing donated items for sale.

The stores bring more than $2 million to the hospital each year, which provides health care to children in the community, according to the hospital’s website.

When the previous location closed, Litton said the items in the store were taken to the organization’s processing location in Norfolk where they were distributed to other stores in the area.

“We’re here and happy to be back and are excited to have everyone visit our new location and shop for the babies,” she said.

CHKD Thrift Store York County is at 6610 Mooretown Road. The store also accepts donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., or Litton said donations can be scheduled for pick up by clicking here.
