Kara Joyce, a permit technician for York County, said as of Thursday, the store satisfied all of the county’s requirements and has passed all inspections.
And, the store re-opened that same day.
Officials from Spirit Halloween’s corporate office weren’t immediately available to say what was done to satisfy the county’s requirements but Melanie Summerfield, an employee at the Williamsburg location, said their team worked hard after the abrupt closing to get the store up to code.
“We just want people to know we’re here, we’re open and ready to serve them,” she said.
The store, located in the old Kmart building, had originally opened to customers despite work still needing to be done on the structure, said Lynn Underwood, building official for York County.
With more than 1,300 locations in the U.S. and Canada, Spirit Halloween stores open in late August through early November each year to provide customers with a one-stop-shop during the Halloween season.
Spirit Halloween is open until Nov. 2 and is located at 118 Waller Mill Road.
