A pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle while trying to cross Bypass Road in Williamsburg Tuesday night.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office sent out an alert Tuesday evening around 8 p.m. warning drivers the eastbound lanes of the road would be closed as Virginia State Police investigated the incident.

The crash happened in the 200 block of Bypass Road.

The eastbound lanes of the road between Commons Way and Route 132 were closed as of 8 p.m. and “until further notice.”

The sheriff’s office did not give any details about the identity of the pedestrian in the Tuesday night alert.
