NORFOLK — City Council has voted unanimously to approve the repurposing of historic buildings mixed with new construction for the Railyard at Lambert’s Point.
The Norfolk Planning Commission also approved the development project with the support of Lambert’s Point Civic League, officials said in a news release Wednesday.
The developers, Meredith Construction, and in partnership with CCB Railyard, are expected to break ground in March 2020 when they’ll restore and repurpose historic buildings at Lambert’s Point for “modern users,” but also add new buildings to create an entertainment mecca in the neighborhood on Hampton Boulevard.
Officials said the Railyard comes at a $40 million investment and has the potential to bring 350 jobs and 100,000 square feet of new and redeveloped space to the area.
“When complete, it will include a mix of retail, office, entertainment, and dining,” officials said.

The property, centrally located between Norfolk Naval Base, Old Dominion University, Eastern Virginia Medical School, and Downtown Norfolk, will feature a central courtyard with a stage and space for a farmer’s market.
The prime location also runs adjacent to the Elizabeth River Trail, officials said, providing direct access for pedestrians, runners, and cyclist.
Rich Meredith heads the development division at Meredith Construction and said the Railway should be done by next year.
“This project will add value to the neighborhood, and its ideal location between the schools, base, and hospitals should be a great resource for the community,” he said.
