With the effects of Hurricane Dorian hitting Virginia Friday, James City County has activated its Emergency Operations Center.
The center gathers staff from James City County police, fire, emergency management and public information departments to monitor Hurricane Dorian as the area stays under a tropical storm and storm surge warning.
The operations center advises residents even outside the main focus of the hurricane’s cone to prepare themselves with the proper information in case of an emergency.
As of Friday morning, the operations center reported 101 power outages from customers of Dominion Energy in James City County.
All roads in the county were reported open with no hazards. However, if a resident sees a road hazard they should contact the county at 757-566-0112, officials said.
