Dorian: Here’s what’s closed, cancelled in Virginia Beach

The following Virginia Beach offices, facilities and attractions will be closed Friday, Sept. 6 because of Hurricane Dorian.

  • All City of Virginia Beach offices
  • Waste Management is suspending all trash, recycling, bulky item, and yard debris collections for Friday, Sept. 6. Collections will be on Saturday, Sept. 7 instead.
    • The West Neck and Oceana Recycling Drop-off Centers will be closed Friday. The Landfill & Resource Recovery Center closed Friday. The landfill will reopen as weather conditions allow.
  • All Virginia Beach community recreation centers and parks.
    • All activities scheduled at these locations, including early childhood child-care programs are also cancelled.
  • All Virginia Beach public libraries
    • TCC/City Joint-Use Library closed at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5 along with the rest of the TCC campus. The library will remain closed Friday, Sept. 6.
  • All Virginia Beach city public schools and administrative offices
  • Francis Land House, Lynnhaven House, Thoroughgood House and Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School Museum
  • Cape Henry Lighthouse
  • Sandler Center for the Performing Arts administrative offices and Box Office
  • Virginia Beach Circuit Court, General District Court, Juvenile & Domestic Relations Courts and Clerk’s Offices
  • Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office
  • Virginia Beach Convention Center
  • Virginia Beach Department of Public Health
    • The Public Immunization Clinic closed at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5.
  • Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center
  • Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center
  • Virginia Beach Farmers Market
  • The Virginia Beach Visitor Information Center at First Landing State Park
  • The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium is closed until after the storm
  • First Landing State Park

 The following events have been cancelled or postponed:

  • The VB GIGs event on Saturday, Sept. 7 at Williams Farm Park has been postponed.
  • The Neptune Festival Symphony by the Sea concert originally scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 5 has been rescheduled for Thursday, Sept. 19.
  • All Emergency Medical Services Classes have been cancelled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
  • The Three Dog Night show at Sandler Center originally scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 8 has been rescheduled to Jan. 23, 2020. All ticket holders are encouraged to hold on to their original ticket as these will be honored at the rescheduled date.
  • Jail Visitation and Weekender Program
    • Inmate visitation at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center has been canceled for Friday, Sept. 6, and is scheduled to resume on Saturday, Sept. 7.
    • The Weekender Program has also been canceled and weekenders scheduled to report on Friday, Sept. 6, should not report. This includes Weekend Workforce participants. Weekday inmates on the program should still report on their required day and time. Delayed confinement individuals scheduled to report to the jail on Friday, Sept. 6, must still report pursuant to their court order.
  • The Virginia Aquarium boat programs are cancelled until Saturday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m.

NOTE:  Lifeguards will be present on the Resort Beach only (Rudee Inlet to 42nd Street) this week. Weather permitting, there will be 12 lifeguard stands staffed in that area from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day.
