NORFOLK — A new way to celebrate birthdays, bachelor parties, and corporate events has made its way to here.
“We love Norfolk where there’s the neatest mix of traditional and contemporary. This is just a different way to see the town and take in the sights,” said Ronda Baucom, co-owner of Norfolk Pedal Tours.
Baucom along with her husband and son are encouraging folks to get out with at least five of their friends to pedal through a bar crawl, history tour, or art tour on their “pedal-powered touring vehicle.”
“The vehicle seats 15 with 10 peddling seats but it’s kind of hard to move with less than four people,” she said.
After seeing what looks like a party on a bicycle in other cities, Baucom and her family started working in February to bring the eclectic and eco-friendly way to take on exploring Norfolk’s Downtown and Ghent neighborhoods.
“We thought they looked so cool and my husband has a friend in Philadelphia who consulted us — before we knew it, we were in it,” she said.
The bike is also powered by battery and Baucom said “being a green company is something we’re pretty proud of.”
The family-owned operation is partnered with local businesses Baucom called “pedal partners” who open their doors to pedalers on stops along the tours.
Tickets for bar tours are on sale now, but Baucom said the company plans to expand its “pedal partners” to include local businesses for history, art, and even military pedal tours.
