Hampton Roads Connector Partners, the design-build prime contractor on VDOT’s $3.8 billion Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project, is hosting a free small business networking event.
It will be on Sept. 11 from 8 a.m. to noon.
Disadvantaged Business Enterprise and small, women-owned and minority-owned businesses are invited to the event which will be at the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton.
The event is designed to connect local, small businesses with the project’s key decision makers, stakeholders and community partners to assist the connector partners in meeting the project’s goals, officials said in a news release.
Connector partners have a goal to meet of 12 percent Disadvantaged Business Enterprise businesses and 20 percent small, women-owned and minority-owned businesses, officials said.
The project’s scope includes marine work, bridge demolition and construction, highway lane expansion, and the boring of two new tunnels between the cities of Hampton and Norfolk.
HRCP’s project team anticipates small business participation opportunities in design, engineering and all facets of construction, officials said.
“This is an excellent opportunity for small businesses who want to be involved in the HRBT Expansion Project to meet our team,” said Jose Ignacio Martin Alos, HRCP’s project executive. “We look at every project opportunity as a DBE/SWaM opportunity.”
Gov. Ralph S. Northam and Virginia Secretary of Transportation Shannon Valentine will be in attendance in support of strengthening small business participation in state contracting.
“Small businesses are a vital economic engine for Virginia, making up 97 percent of all businesses, but we know there is work to do to ensure they have equal opportunity to grow and succeed in our Commonwealth,” Northam said. “With this Executive Order (Executive Order 35) we are strengthening our commitment to expanding small business participation in state contracting and achieving equity for our women- and minority-owned businesses.”
