NORFOLK — The city announced the Offsite Gallery has relocated from the World Trade Center to the second level of the MacArthur Center.
Its new art installation will be available starting Friday, from 5 to 8 p.m. The gallery moves from the downtown area’s World Trade Center to MacArthur Center’s Level 2 between Hamilton Perkins and Francesca’s.
“With a 13-year history, we are a key player in the Hampton Roads art scene,” said Karen Rudd, manager Norfolk Arts. “We are thrilled at the ability to continue to extend opportunities to artists interested in exhibiting in a professional contemporary gallery. At MacArthur Center we’ll join a diverse artistic community making art accessible to everyone.”
The event as well as daily admission to the exhibit is free and open to the public.
The inaugural exhibit at the MacArthur Center showcases work by Christopher Kozak and Mensah Bey, both of whom focus on the human form from a modern sensibility, officials said in a news release.
His work has been previously exhibited at MOCA, Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art and the Chrysler Fine Art Museum.
Bey, a native of Richmond, creates work that explores a surrealistic abstract world referenced by the digital age through the application of hard-edged, geometric patterning.
After the exhibition opening, the gallery is free and open to the public during mall hours.
New exhibits will be installed every six to eight weeks, officials said.
