VIRGINIA BEACH — The city’s police department will be conducting their annual neighborhood surveys in the upcoming weeks starting Wednesday evening.
The survey’s intent is to evaluate the public’s feelings of safety, to strengthen connections between the police and those who live in the community, and to help the department gather information on what is needed to improve safety in their neighborhoods, officials said in a news release.
Chief Jim Cervera and members of his command staff, along with precinct police officers will begin conducting the surveys in selected neighborhoods throughout the city.
In addition to completing the survey, officers will be providing information pamphlets about crime prevention tips and other information to help residents become more involved in the community, officials added.
VBPD was unable to be reached for comment on the survey questions’ content or what they’ve learned in the past from these surveys.
Survey teams will include at least one officer in uniform and surveys will start around 6 p.m. and finish no later than 9 p.m.
