VIRGINIA BEACH — Locals know August means there’s still a good chunk of summer fun to be enjoyed outside…and inside.

Take for instance the Convention Center.

Here’s its lineup for August.

  • Aug. 9 – 11: 7th Annual Virginia Beach Tattoo Festival – Ink artists from across the country will gather at this festival which is now in its seventh year. Bands, contests, live mural paintings, and BMX stunts are just the start of this three-day event. Plan on being there for the appearance of special guest Enigma, the American sideshow performer, actor and musician who has undergone extensive body modifications such as horn implants. Daily and three-day weekend passes available. The full event schedule may be found here.
  • Aug. 15: 2019 Virginia Beach City Public Schools Summer School Graduations – Program starts at 6 p.m.
  • Aug. 17 – 18: SuperStar Anime Convention – There will be photo ops, an arcade, chances for autographs, Cosplay Karaoke hosted by DJ Cannonball and more.  This event looks to be a sell-out, so get your tickets today at www.superstaranime.com.
  • Aug. 30 – Sept. 1: Rock ‘n’ Roll ½ Marathon and Health & Fitness Expo – For more than 20 years, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series has made running fun by infusing each course with live bands, cheer teams and more. They’re bringing their best with more music, runner support, and community engagement every step of the way. Held each year on Labor Day weekend in conjunction with the American Music Festival, half marathon runners are treated to a three-day music festival in addition to miles of music on the course and a grand finish along the oceanfront Boardwalk. With half marathon, 5k, and 1-mile options, there is something for everyone. The Rock ‘n’ Roll 1/2 Marathon Health & Fitness Expo is the first stop. Pick up race packets and shop the vendor hall beginning Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. Register here.
