Signs posted in the windows and doors of El Tapatio Restaurante Mexicano in New Town indicate there may be change coming to the Mexican restaurant.

El Tapatio, across the street from Buffalo Wild Wings, has posted multiple brightly-colored signs in its windows announcing the business will soon be a Jose Tequilas.

Unhung signs sitting on a chair in the entryway of the business, which was closed during its business hours Thursday, say the restaurant is closed for renovations.

A manager or owner from the Jose Tequilas location at the corner of Waller Mill Road and Bypass Road did not return a request for comment and additional information Thursday.

James City County Commissioner of the Revenue confirmed Thursday El Tapatio has a business license for the location at 4917 Courthouse St., but has not yet reported any changes.

If the company rebrands, it will need to come in to the commissioner’s office and register a new trade name, Bradshaw said.

If it’s a new company assuming ownership, it will need to get a new business license.

“At this point, no one has registered a new business at this location,” he said.

Drew Haynie, first vice president of New Town leasing agent Cushman and Wakefield |Thalhimer, said he hasn’t received a formal word from the ownership of the business about Jose Tequilas or changes at the location, “other than he is re-branding and/or planning to renovate the restaurant.”

The owner’s lease for the location is current, Haynie said.
