VIRGINIA BEACH — The city’s official destination marketing organization is losing its director within the coming weeks for “personal and family reasons.”
Teresa Diaz, spokeswoman for the Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau, said Brad Van Dommelen is returning to his home state in Michigan “on his own terms.”
Diaz also said plans to hire a new director or appoint an interim director after Van Dommelen’s last day on Aug. 16 hasn’t been determined at this time.
Dommelen received an annual salary of $163,843 when he was hired by City Manager Dave Hansen in 2016. He is most recently known for his summer “Go Beachless” campaign focusing on the year-round amenities offered here.
Virginia Beach Convention and Visitors Bureau is a municipal organization whose mission is to promote the coastal city as a year-round destination for domestic and international leisure travel, business travel, conventions, sports, and special events.
