You can help police solve this crime while remaining anonymous

VIRGINIA BEACH — Homicide detectives here are asking anyone with information about a “malicious wounding” in May come forward while maintaining their anonymity through the Crime Solvers program.

Police Det. Kevin Fanelli is the program’s coordinator — he said tipsters can be assured suspects will not be told their arrest was the result of anonymous tips.

“What their information will do is simply point us in the right direction and they’ll never have to worry about coming to court or being identified,” he said.

On May 11, two men were arguing on Johnstown Lane when one man shot the other in the chest twice leaving him in critical condition.

Police said there are people out there who know what happened that night, but they’re scared.

“We’re hoping they feel more comfortable giving us information through Crime Solvers knowing they’re guaranteed to remain anonymous,” he said.

Fanelli shared photos where the shooter, a black male, can be seen in the middle of the first picture and a possibly involved vehicle in the second.

“The pictures in this entry are not going to solve this crime but knowledge of events still might,” he said.

Crime Solvers is a nonprofit organization that accepts completely anonymous tips from residents about criminal activity.

Information from tipsters is shared with police, but remains completely anonymous — no identifying information of sources is ever disclosed and the anonymity of tipsters is protected by state law.

Tipsters could also be eligible for a cash reward up to $1,000 if their information leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information can call 888-LOCK-U-UP (888-562-5887) or submit a tip through the P3Tips website or by downloading the P3 Tips app available in Apple iTunes and Google Play stores.
