
Fifty years ago marks the first time man stepped foot on the moon during NASA’s Apollo 11 space mission.
Across the Peninsula, several localities including Hampton, Newport News, Williamsburg, York County and James City County, are celebrating the historical event with family fun activities from movie features to “stomp” rockets.

- Cinema @ Scotland St. Presents: Apollo 11 at the Williamsburg Regional Library – July 17 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- Space Day at the James City County Library– July 20 from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Hampton – Newport News
- 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 at the Virginia Living Museum – July 20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Included with museum admission.
- Moon Landing 50th Anniversary at Air Power Park – July 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Apollo 50th Anniversary at the Mariners Museum and Park – July 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Included with museum admission
