‘Uber for lawn care’ is now available in Virginia Beach. Here’s how it works

VIRGINIA BEACH — What’s being described as the “Uber for lawn care” has made its way here.

GreenPal is the mobile app allowing customers to conveniently find, schedule, and pay for lawn care service, said the company’s co-founder, Gene Caballero.

Caballero said the app is not associated with Uber.

“We launched into Norfolk earlier this summer and we had an overwhelming number of homeowners signing up in Virginia Beach,” he said.

GreenPal joins the likes of today’s “service apps” helping the on-the-go resident tackle everyday tedious chores like mowing the lawn.

After creating an account, the user starts receiving bids from lawn care companies almost immediately once they submit a photo of the area they want serviced.

Caballero said the vendors bidding for jobs keep prices lower than they would be if the customer went directly to the company.

“New vendors or vendors that are already servicing a property in the area tend to bid tighter to make sure they win the property,” he said.

Even if they’re offering the lowest bid, the GreenPal platform benefits local companies and “professionals who are looking to grow their landscaping business,” Caballero said.

And, users benefit from being able to read reviews while ensuring they’re receiving professional services from an established company.

“To become a vendor, one has to submit pictures of their commercial grade equipment, pictures of previous work, references, valid Social Security number, and has to have a bank account in good standing at a financial institution,” Caballero said.

The process ends just like it started but this time with the vendor sending the homeowner a photo of their finished lawn.

If the customer likes the vendor’s work, they can schedule their services in advance and on a repeating basis.

Both homeowners and lawn care professionals can download the app for free or click here for more information.
