Safety discussions about an intersection on a busy street in James City County are set to continue this week.

On Thursday, James City County will host a community forum to discuss the intersections at Route 5 and Route 614.

In January, the county had an initial community meeting regarding safety concerns at the Route 5 and Route 614, said Holly Christopher, a communications manager for the Hampton Roads District with the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Since that time, VDOT has performed a roadway safety analysis to consider various options to increase safety at the intersections. The department’s safety analysis, compiled by the Traffic Engineering staff, is only in the preliminary stages and will be finalized after the meeting on Thursday.

Ruth Larson, the representative for the Berkeley District on the James City County Board of Supervisosr will host the meeting and representatives from VDOT will attend to discuss the findings of the safety study, according to a news release from the county.

The discussion will cover both potential short and long-term options for the intersections.
