Fourth of July is Thursday leaving some people with a four-day weekend.
With various activities planned for the holiday such as fireworks, cook-outs and beach days, here’s the weekend forecast for the Peninsula.
“We’ve been staying fairly dry these past couple of days,” said Jeff Orrock, meteorologist-in-charge at the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
While the daytime hours on Thursday and Friday should be relatively clear, there is the possibility of “hit or miss” scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, he said.
Saturday evening there is also a potential for more thunderstorms.
“The atmosphere is going to be really supportive of thunderstorms,” Orrock said. “It’s going to be kind of disorganized.”
As for Sunday, Orrock said it is tough forecasting for this day as there is a weak front coming which means a chance for more thunderstorms in the afternoon.
He also cautioned boaters to watch the clouds and be mindful of the weather during the holiday weekend.
“When it gets hot like this and we get thunderstorms like these ––– they make quite a bit of lightening and wind,” Orrock said.
