Death on Dare Road prompts investigation; one detained for questioning

YPSO investigatesThe York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office has detained a person for questioning after a man was found dead inside a home on Dare Road Wednesday.

Details remain slim until the man’s next of kin is notified and the investigation reveals more information, sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shelley Ward said.

Deputies responded to the 400 block of Dare Road around 2:55 p.m. Wednesday after a person called police saying they found a family member dead inside a home, Ward said.

His age has not yet been confirmed, Ward said.

At this point, authorities also do not know how long the man had been dead.

The sheriff’s office has detained a person for questioning about possible involvement in the death, Ward said. The family member who called is not the same person who has been detained.

Authorities are not yet releasing the gender or identity of the person being questioned.

The sheriff’s office is also not yet releasing whether the death is considered suspicious because it is “too early” in the investigation, Ward said.

“It’s a small community out there, so with not all the next of kin being notified yet, it’s going to be pretty easy for neighbors to put two and two together,” Ward said. “That would be a terrible way for them to find out.”
