Here’s a list of closures on the Peninsula for the July 4th holiday weekend

America’s birthday is Thursday so if you have errands to run, make sure to go before that day. Here’s a list of county locations closed on the federal holiday in Williamsburg, James City County, Newport News and Hampton.

Williamsburg

  • All offices in the Municipal Building, closed
  • Williamsburg-James City County Courthouse, closed
  • Quarterpath Recreation Center, closed
  • Downtown Williamsburg Regional Library, closed

All city parks will remain open on Thursday. The new garbage and recycling contract will begin on July 1 and second, so both recycling and garbage will be collected on the same day.

James City County

  • County offices, closed
  • James City County Recreation Center, closed
  • Abram Frink Jr. Community Center, closed
  • Freedom Park Store and office, closed
  • Chickahominy Riverfront Park store and office, open
  • James City County Marina store and office, open
  • Little Creek Reservoir Park store and office, open
  • Convenience centers and garbage transfer station, closed

Regular recycling on Thursday will be moved to Friday and Friday’s recycling schedule will be moved to Saturday.

York County

  • York County Courthouse, closed
  • York County offices, closed
  • Virginia Cooperative Extension Service, closed
  • York-Poquoson Social Services, closed
  • York County Public Libraries, closed
  • Waste Management Administrative Office, closed
  • Waste Management Transfer Station, closed
  • Waste Management drop-off area, closed
  • Virginia Peninsula Public Service Authority, closed

Curbside garbage and recycling collection will not take place on Thursday. Regularly scheduled collection will take place on Friday and Friday’s collections will take place on Saturday.

Newport News

  • City Offices – July 4-5
  • Libraries – July 4-5
  • Courts – July 4
  • Recovery Operations Center (i.e., landfill) – July 4-5
  • Garbage, recycling and bulk waste collections – July 4
    • Thursday’s collections will take place on Monday, July 8, and all regularly scheduled collections for the week of July 8 will be delayed one day.
    • NOTE: there are no scheduled collections on Fridays.

Hampton

  • City Offices- July 4-5
  • City schools
  • Libraries – July 4-5
  • Courts – July 4-5
  • Garbage collection -July 4
    • Thursday collections will be made Wednesday, July 3.
    • Yard waste site
  • Street sweeping – July 4. Make-up day is Saturday, June 29
  • Air Power Park -July 4
  • Charles H. Taylor Arts Center – July 4-5
