Crash on 199 sent two to the hospital, and one is a suspect in a ‘narcotics investigation,’ police say

The Virginia State Police is investigating a car crash Wednesday involving a suspect in an ongoing drug investigation, James City County police said.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., police attempted to stop a Nissan Pathfinder on Route 199 as part of what authorities say is an ongoing narcotics investigation. The vehicle tried to avoid traffic stopped at a red light at the intersection of John Tyler Highway, hit a Honda Odyssey and then hit a light pole before catching on fire, police said.

The suspect was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said. The driver of the Honda Odyssey was taken to Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

No other details about the incident were immediately released.
