Did you know you can take an aerial tour of Norfolk? Here’s how

NORFOLK — Nauticus teamed up with Protocom Aviation to provide a unique sightseeing experience that allows visitors to see the historic city like never before.

Protocom Aviation operates an amphibious seaplane from the Half Moon Marina at Nauticus and from there it uses the Elizabeth River as a runway to start its tours.

Fly Nauticus’ program allows visitors to choose between two different types of tours: a Norfolk Tour and a Hampton Roads Tour, officials said.

The Norfolk Tour takes visitors on a birds-eye view of the the following landmarks:

  • Norfolk Naval Station Pier
  • Norfolk Naval Station
  • Old Dominion University
  • Virginia Zoological Park
  • Scope Arena
  • Chrysler Hall
  • Harbor Park
  • Waterside
  • Portsmouth Naval Hospital
  • Nauticus Maritime Museum

The Hampton Roads Tour is an extended version of the Norfolk tour letting visitors see the following:

  • Norfolk Naval Station Piers
  • Norfolk Naval Air Station
  • Willoughby Bay
  • Little Creek-Fort Story Expeditionary Base
  • Shore Drive
  • Lynnhaven Inlet
  • First Landing State Park
  • Cape Henry Lighthouse
  • Oceanfront
  • Virginia Aquarium
  • Oceana Naval Air Station
