Ron Wade and Roger Copenhaver have decided to sell their hardware store, True Value, to Peninsula Ace Hardware. The new Ace Hardware store opens June 4.
“I’m emotional,” Wade, 84 said. “You start something from scratch and then you stick with it for 42 years and then you give it up.”
Wade said he will continue to work at the store part-time while Copenhaver, 68 will retire.
“I probably won’t stay on,” Copenhaver said, adding the pair has run the business for 42 years and he’s had some health issues, nothing serious.
“I think we filled a little niche for the county for quite a few years,” he said.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the pair thanked their customers for their support over the years, adding the community will see some familiar faces.
“They [Ace Peninsula Hardware] are retaining all our personnel that we hired,” Wade said.
Until then, the store will remain open during the transition with Ace Peninsula Hardware officially taking over the business on June 4.
