NORFOLK — Nearly 4,500 sailors arrived here Thursday morning when USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) pulled into port.

The aircraft carrier’s new home is Naval Station Norfolk. It had been deployed for the last several months.

The Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), recently moved its homeport from Norfolk to San Diego.

The USS Lincoln, commissioned in 1989, previously served in the Pacific Fleet from 1990-2011 before moving to Norfolk for midlife refueling.

John C. Stennis was homeported in Bremerton, Washington. It will undergo its midlife refueling, or reactor complex overhaul at Newport News Shipbuilding.

The Stennis was commissioned in 1995.
