The owner of a Kingsmill townhome has been displaced following a fire Sunday.

At 4:14 p.m., the James City County Fire Department responded to a call from the 70 block of Winster Fax in the Kingsmill subdivision, according to a news release from James City County.

Upon arrival, fire fighters found “heavy fire conditions.” Alton Catlett, James City County battalion chief, said this means crewscould see the fire from outside the home.

Catlett said the top priority was safety and making sure the fire did not spread to the connecting town homes.

The fire was extinguished at 4:49 p.m., but had already done extensive damage to the first floor of the town home and there was smoke damage on the second floor.

The Williamsburg Fire Department assisted with controlling the fire.

According to the news release, the fire was caused by unattended cooking in the kitchen of the home.

The homeowner was the only person in the residence when the fire started and there were no injuries.
