Yorktown Market Days are back this year — and longer than before.
York County’s annual waterfront farmers market starts Saturday. It will run from 8 a.m. to noon at Riverwalk landing, county officials wrote in a news release.
The market will open with the Town Crier, then a performance by the Fifes and Drums of York Town at 9 a.m.
Like past years, shoppers can find meats and seafood; fresh-baked breads and pastries; honey, artisan chocolate, and desserts; gourmet dog treats; cut and dried flowers; various ethnic foods; and high-quality artwork, according to the news release.
There will also be some family-friendly educational activities from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, including:
- Yorktown Feed Seed ‘N Moore & TSP Lawns & Landscapes will sponsor a seed-planting activity for children 13 years old or younger. The first 500 children will take home a planted seed with care instructions.
- The Virginia Cooperative Extension will be on-site to teach about the role pollinators play in plant fertilization with a hands-on “bumble bee craft.”
- Community partners the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and Watermen’s Museum will do living history demonstrations about farming in the 18th century in Virginia. The demonstrations will also describe the impact the Civil War has on farmers.
This year, there will also be several themed markets with longer hours than previous years, running until 3 p.m.
Those themed markets include:
- April 20: Sister Cities French Market (10 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
- April 27: Pirate Invasion Market (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
- May 11: Wellness Market (8 a.m. to 3 p.m.)
