NEWPORT NEWS — An inmate at the city jail here died in a hospital Thursday afternoon — he was found three days ago hanging in his cell and revived by jail personnel, the sheriff’s office said.
At approximately 2:30 p.m. on April 1, Alfred Raymond Lattanzio, 42, was found hanging in his cell and jail deputies tried to resuscitate him until the medics took over, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
Lattanzio was resuscitated and taken to the hospital for treatment. He died Thursday.
On March 29, Lattanzio allegedly shot Randall Edward Dotson, 61 of Newport News who died from multiple gunshot wounds, authorities said.
A day later, police arrested and charged Lattanzio with first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a felon.
