A crash on Route 199 on Tuesday resulted in nearly nine hours of cleaning up hazardous materials from the roadway.

At approximately 4:49 p.m., James City County Police officers arrived at the scene of a vehicle crash between Route 199 and Windsormeade Way, according to reports from JCCPD.

Darrell Antoenio James, 59, was driving along 199 east onto Monticello toward Target when his vehicle collided with an Orkin pesticide truck.

The Orkin truck rolled over multiple times, causing pesticides and hazardous materials to be spilled onto the roadway, police said. The area was closed until 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Both drivers were taken to Riverside Regional Medical Center with minor injuries, police said.

James was charged with driving under the influence, police said.
