VIRGINIA BEACH — An interactive, visually-driven storytelling performance targeted for high schoolers is coming here as part of Something in the Water, the Oceanfront festival spearheaded by hip-hop star Pharrell Williams.
XQ Super School Live is a 9-city immersive storytelling tour to “inspire people to reimagine high schools,” according to its website. Aside from Virginia Beach, Super School will also travel to Memphis, Nashville, Denver, Colorado Springs, San Diego, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Seattle.
According to a Twitter post from i am OTHER, which is the Williams-owned branding company behind the festival, XQ’s programming is described as an “immersive, multimedia storytelling night that celebrates everyday heroes transforming America’s high schools.”
The Virginia Beach program is coming to Zeiders American Dream Theater on April 25, the week of Something in the Water.
According to the Super School’s website, all proceeds from ticket sales benefit local nonprofits. Which local organizations that would receive those proceeds during the Virginia Beach show were not immediately known.

The Super School website describes itself as a “night of high school drama full of stories, selfie confessionals, viral gratitude, and multimedia adventures that celebrate the everyday heroes transforming America’s high schools.”
XQ launched in September 2015 as an open call on people to “rethink and redesign the American high school,” according to its website. XQ has since pledged more than $130 million to create Super Schools.
XQ is led by co-Founder and CEO Russlynn Ali, former Assistant Secretary of Education for Civil Rights under President Barack Obama, and co-Founder and Board Chair Laurene Powell Jobs, president of Emerson Collective.
