VIRGINIA BEACH – Authorities here have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man “associated with an early morning fire” Thursday.
Fire officials believe the 3:15 a.m. blaze in the 3200 block of Glastonbury in the Landstown Lakes section of the city was accidental, said Art Kohn, spokesman for the Virginia Beach Fire Department.
The home had an automatic fire alarm. Fire crews were at the scene within six minutes of the alarm, Kohn said.
At the scene, one of the residents, a woman, was outside and told firefighters someone was still inside the home.
Inside a room over the garage crews found a 68-year-old man who was quickly brought outside. The man was pronounced dead at the scene at around 3:32 a.m., Kohn said.
Information on the man’s identity was not made immediately available. The woman was uninjured, Kohn said.
“The fire was contained to the room of origin and the exact cause is under investigation,” Kohn said.
