NORFOLK — Those 50 and older are invited to register for the first Senior SWAT Safety Welfare and Training.

The free event will be on April 5 — it’s open to the public but participants must register by March 29.

The purpose of the training is to build trust in law enforcement among the senior population, city officials said.

There will be more workshops following the first once a month until August, each covering a different topic.

The topics range from building trust in law enforcement, economic crimes 101, special crimes 101, criminal investigation bureau to crisis intervention team 101 and a graduation K-9 demo.

Norfolk Police and their community resource officers will be hosting the events.

On April 5, starting at 10 a.m. seniors will gather at Primeplus which is located inside the Norfolk Fitness & Wellness Center.

Lunch will be served.
