The Norfolk branch of the FBI, in partnership with Broadcast Church, will hold a seminar to discuss “Romance Scams” and “Ponzi Schemes.”
Senior citizens, children, caretakers of seniors, and all community members are invited to this free event on Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Broadcast Church, according to a news release from the FBI.
Those interested in attending are asked to register online.
The event is part of the FBI’s commitment to investigate and help prevent Elder Fraud — financial fraud schemes against senior citizens. Elder fraud takes many forms as criminal elements seek to take advantage of this vulnerable and growing population, the FBI said.

Romance scams and ponzi schemes are two of the kinds of fraud schemes that target seniors because of their unique life situation and financial position, according to the news release. An important step in helping seniors avoid becoming victimized is educating the population to be more aware of scams that target the elderly.
