Those looking for a more personal experience with their local pharmacist are now in luck.

A new drug store and pharmacy, the Prescription Shoppe, has opened in the Courthouse Commons Shopping Center, at 5223 Monticello Ave. Suite C, James City County announced this week.

The store had its grand opening March 6, according to its Facebook post.

The new store is owned by Henry Ranger, who worked for major retail pharmacy companies for 10 years before opening the Williamsburg business, which favors a more family-oriented environment.

“When you come to The Prescription Shoppe, you can expect to be treated like family because you are. As our patient, you are our main concern and your overall health and wellness is our number one priority,” Ranger said in the county news release. “We are excited to serve the Greater Williamsburg community.”

The Prescription Shoppe does online refills, free local delivery, vitamins and supplements and individual pill packaging. The business website says the pharmacy will also give vaccinations and sell hemp-based CBD oil and other specialty drugs.

It also offers rapid strep and flu testing with antibiotic treatment if deemed necessary, as well as health care seminars.

Ranger is originally from Beaufort, South Carolina. In 2011, he graduated from Hampton University School of Pharmacy with honors.

After graduation, Ranger relocated to Williamsburg with his wife, Jade, and their two children, Jacob and Joshua.

“On his days off, he visits various senior living facilities in the area where he provides an array of pharmacy services for their residents,” Ranger’s online biography says.

The Prescription Shoppe will be open Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
