Man found dead in Hampton, police say

HAMPTON — Police here have closed eastbound traffic between Southerland Drive and Chichester Avenue Wednesday afternoon after a man was found dead in a ditch.

At approximately 12:24 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 100 block of East Mercury Boulevard and found an unresponsive man lying in a ditch. He was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

According to the department’s news release, the cause of death is unknown and it is unclear how long traffic will be closed between Southerland Drive and Chichester Avenue, authorities said.
