So when will this new Hyatt open in Hampton?

The Hyatt Hotel across from the Hampton Roads Convention Center in Hampton is almost complete.

“One of Council’s strategic goals is to bring new, high quality hotels to the City,” said Donnie Tuck, the city’s mayor in a 2016 new release.  “My peers and I are thrilled to have obtained a great hotel flag that will be developed by a nationally recognized hotelier who continues to invest in Hampton.”

The city’s economic development authority gave the Landmark Hotel Group about $4.2 million in incentives to build the first Hyatt brand hotel on the Peninsula, according to the city’s announcement.

Here’s the breakdown:

  • Discounting land to $1 (worth $1.3 million)
  • An annual grant worth up to $59,300 over 10 years
  • Help developer get financing in state tourism program

The new $16.5 million hotel, 1905 Coliseum Drive will have 110 rooms, complimentary WiFi, 2,400 square feet of meeting space, a 24-hour gym and indoor pool and other amenities.

The Landmark Hotel Group, based in Virginia Beach, currently operates the Holiday Inn Express adjacent to Hyatt Place, near the Hampton Roads Convention Center.

The hotel’s group announcement on their website states the hotel is expected to open at the end of 2018. The site is still under construction and it’s unclear when it will open or why the opening is delayed. It’s also unclear if the hotel is hiring.

WYDaily reached out to the Landmark Hotel Group multiple times but they could not be immediately reached for comment. The Hyatt Hotel’s voicemail system has not been updated — it still says the hotel was expected to open in late 2018.
