State Bar: Yorktown attorney’s license revoked, accused of misconduct

A Yorktown attorney’s license to practice law in the state was revoked by the Virginia State Bar Association on Feb. 15 for withholding money and other charges, Bar officials said.

And he can appeal it.

According to the Bar’s subcommittee’s filing certificate, Sammy Edward Ayer allegedly failed to communicate with clients, in some cases, misrepresenting a client or causing a client to miss a court date, lied to the the Virginia State Bar and took $350 for one client claiming it was for a “filing fee.” See the full summary here.

“Ayer was admitted to practice December 16, 2013,” Renu Brennan, acting bar counsel for the Virginia State Bar wrote in an email.

Brennan said Ayer can appeal the decision by law.

Brennan said the Bar hasn’t release a Memorandom Order and one of the four complaints against Ayer was dismissed.

Ayer is charged with violations of the rules of professional conduct governing competence, diligence, communication, safekeeping property, bar admission and disciplinary matters, and misconduct.

Further details on the charges were not immediately available.

WYDaily called the listed office number for Ayer but the voicemail box was full.
