HAMPTON — VDOT is repairing the Interstate 64 bridge over Armistead Avenue starting Sunday.

The project will last four months and is expected to end before Memorial Day.

According to VDOT’s announcement, the project consists of demolishing the bridge deck, replacing the bridge’s two supporting beams and milling a new ramp exit to the highway.

The Lasalle Avenue on-ramp to I-64 east will be closed for the duration of the project with three main eastbound travel lanes open to traffic.

In addition, a portion of Armistead Avenue will be closed for six weeks eastbound and then six weeks westbound with signed detours in place. See more information on detours here.

The project is expected to be completed in May, weather permitting. For more information, visit the VDOT project website.
