Keep Norfolk Beautiful is looking for artists to design and paint 55-gallon metal drum trash cans with volunteers in an effort to reduce litter at Lafayette Park.

Artwork designs must include a slogan that’s a clever call to action such as “Slam Dunk Your Junk,” according to a news release from the city.

There will be a total of 15 cans painted and artists are encouraged to develop their own slogans.

Designs for the trash cans must be submitted prior to painting and approval.

Artists chosen will be given a stipend and they may be selected to paint no more than four cans, according to the city.

All paint, brushes, and materials will be provided.

Artists must be available on May 3 to paint the cans with volunteers.

To apply:

  • Submit 2-5 JPEG images of your past work and/or a design for one or more painted 55-gallon metal trash cans to katie.white@norfolk.gov by Feb. 22. Put “trash cans” in subject line.
  • Questions about this opportunity can be directed to Keep Norfolk Beautiful, 757-441-1347 or katie.white@norfolk.gov.
