VIRGINIA BEACH — A 49-year-old local man pleaded guilty Wednesday to charges of possession of child pornography (1st and 2nd offense) and two counts of possession of child pornography with intent to distribute, transmit.
According to the Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, William David Acuff was sentenced to 20 years in prison with 10 years suspended, leaving 10 years to serve.
Prosecutors said “during the months prior to April 2018” Virginia Beach Police computer crimes detectives received information that a certain IP address was using peer-to-peer software to download and exchange images and videos containing child pornography.
Detectives received information that Acuff of Charter Oak Road was the subscriber using that IP address.
“Detectives received downloads of child pornography files during their investigation, and surveillance was conducted on the residence,” according to a news release from the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
On April 11, 2018, detectives searched Acuff’s home and found — and seized — computers, hard drives, and thumb drives. They later found the thumb drives contained child porn.
Acuff confessed, prosecutors said.
Acuff’s prior record includes a conviction for assault and battery of a family member.
