‘Suspicious substance’ found at CNU dorm

NEWPORT NEWS — A suspicious substance was found in an upperclassmen dorm room at Christopher Newport University Monday, campus officials said.

There were no injuries reported and classes continued as usual.

At 10:57 a.m. the fire department was dispatched to Christopher Newport Crossing, 1 Avenue of the Arts, in response to “hazardous materials” at the east campus area of Christopher Newport University, officials said.

Campus police are working the local police and fire departments in addition to the Virginia State Police, according to a news release from CNU.

No other information was immediately released.
