VIRGINIA BEACH — Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story will participate in the annual anti-terrorism force protection exercise Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2019 Feb. 4-15.
CS/SC 19 is conducted by Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces and Commander, Navy Installations Command on all continental United States Navy installations.
The annual exercise is designed to enhance the readiness of Navy security forces and ensure seamless interoperability among the commands, other services, and agency partners, according to a news release from the Navy.
Exercise CS/SC 19 is not in response to any specific threat, but is a regularly scheduled exercise, the Navy said.
Residents in the vicinity of JEBLCFS may see increased military activity and possible traffic and pedestrian congestion associated with the exercise.
In addition, residents may hear increased use of the installations emergency announcing system associated with the exercise.
Measures have been taken to minimize disruptions within local communities and to normal base operations, but there may be times when the exercise causes increased traffic around bases or delays in base access.
Advanced coordination has taken place with local law enforcement and first responders.
The Navy is still in the process of determining the times of the exercises taking place, they said.
