Man dies in Monday night fire in Virginia Beach; another arrested on domestic-related incident

VIRGINIA BEACH — Police here said a man firefighters pulled from a burning home Monday night was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 8:04 p.m. fire at a home in the 1700 block of Rose Petal Drive followed what police described as a domestic-related incident there.

A man authorities identified as Roel Ray Delua, 33, of Virginia Beach, was arrested and charged with felonious assault and felony hit-and-run.

Additional charges are forthcoming after consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, police said.

Police said their investigation indicated that after dispatchers received a call about the fire, “a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle that was fleeing the same residence.”

That pedestrian, a woman who was connected with the Rose Petal Drive incident, was taken to a local hospital for treatment of “non-life threatening injuries,” police said.

“As firefighters entered the burning dwelling, they located another victim, an adult male, who was later pronounced deceased on scene,” said police spokeswoman Linda Kuehn.

Delua was identified as the suspect in the domestic-related incident and was arrested six hours later at the Salem Crossing Walmart, Kuehn said.

He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries he suffered prior to being arrested, Kuehn said.

Information on the identity of the man who died, and the woman, was not immediately released.
