Millions coming to Norfolk for HIV relief efforts

NORFOLK – U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine on Friday announced $5,788,425 in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to support HIV relief efforts here.

The goal of the project is to enhance access to effective, cost efficient, community-based care for low-income individuals and families with HIV, according to Warner’s and Kaine’s offices.

“We are pleased to announce federal funding to help those with HIV in Norfolk get the care they deserve,” Warner and Kaine said in a joint statement.

The funding was awarded through HHS’s HIV Emergency Relief Project Grant program.

The grant program provides funding to communities that have been the most affected by the HIV epidemic in order to improve access to comprehensive care and increase support for minority populations.
