For workers impacted by the partial government shutdown, Jimmy’s Oven & Grill if offering to fill some hungry stomachs for free.
“By providing a free meal for people not receiving a paycheck not only helps with a necessity of life, but it also provides an uplifting emotion to be able to go out to eat, which otherwise they might not be able to do,” said co-owner, Diana Lambert.
The government shutdown has caused a lot of workers to go without pay for the past month. Businesses in Hampton Roads like Jimmy’s Oven and Grill have opened their doors to help those affected.
The restaurant will be giving one free to a government employee and their immediate family members, up to six members. Guests can bring their government identification and receive the meal during breakfast, lunch or dinner.
In general, the offer is limited to one meal per employee or family member but Lambert said if a family is very needy then they are welcome to come again.
“This is nothing new for Jimmy’s to reach out to our community to help,” she said.
Jimmy’s Oven and Grill is a restaurant in James City County owned by Mo Boulftali. They serve American, Italian and seafood on their menu along with a lunch buffet and Sunday brunch.
Lambert said there is no set date for when the offer will end.
