VIRGINIA BEACH —The city’s Princess Anne Area Library will close Jan. 21 for up to six months of renovations.
While the building is closed, limited library services and programs will still be offered in the community thanks to a partnership with Virginia Beach Parks and Recreation, according to a news release from the city.
The “Princess Anne Express Library,” operating from the Princess Anne Recreation Center next door to the library, will open on Jan. 24 from noon to 6 p.m. Regular hours beginning Thursday, Jan. 25 will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday; closed on Sunday.
Customers may pick up holds and register for library cards at the temporary location. Because of space limitations at the Princess Anne Express Library, material returns cannot be accepted.
Customers may return materials and access full library services at any Virginia Beach Public Library location except Kempsville Area Library, which will also be closed for renovations.

Princess Anne Area Library renovations are part of a $5.8 million Capital Improvement Program awarded in 2016 to renovate 8 of 10 VBPL branches, all except for the TCC/City Joint-Use Library, which opened in 2013, and the Wahab Public Law Library, where renovations were completed in January 2018.
Upgrades at Princess Anne include relocating study rooms to the front of the library, expanding the youth area and enclosing the children’s area. The building will also get new carpet and an additional emergency exit.
