York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office investigators remained tight-lipped about the Sunday deadly shooting of a 20-year-old man inside a home on Wilkins Drive.
They would only say the incident remains under investigation. Many details remained unclear Wednesday.
Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shelley Ward declined to release information on whether there was a break-in at the home, if the shooting was drug- or gang-related, or if the sheriff’s office has identified any suspects – so it remains unclear whether a suspect is (or suspects are) on the loose.
Ward said the sheriff’s office believes the shooting was an isolated incident, but declined to elaborate.
Ward also said she did not have information on whether there are other people who live in the house – Ward confirmed the shooting victim, William Mason Worthington, lived there.
She did say the incident is being considered a “homicide.”
Ward said the medical examiner’s office has not yet determined the official cause and manner of death, three days after the incident.
“They’re working very, very diligently to make an arrest as soon as possible,” Ward said.
But even with the very limited information being released to the public, authorities are asking for tips from the public, urging tipsters to call the Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP or the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office tip line at 757-890-4999.
The incident
Deputies responded to a home in the 1000 block of Wilkins Drive at 12:34 a.m. Sunday after dispatchers received a call about “someone who had been shot,” the York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post.
